Our client desired two sofas that would comfortably sit three persons each. The setting is a massive room with expansive windows that overlook the garden. The challenge was to design seating that was simple, elegant and that would not interfere with the garden view. Our client gave us the photo below and asked that we design her sofas in a similar style.
Step 1: Inspiration
Step 2: Design
We drafted a number of scaled drawings and she selected the design below.
Step 3: Construction
Next we built the frame from durable hardwood. John, pictured here, carefully shapes the frame to provide the proper form for the sofa’s arms.
Step 4: Upholstering
The frame was prepared in muslin prior to upholstering. The client selected a magnificent silk for the covering then came to our shop for a seating to select her cushion fill.
Step 5: Results
After final approval the two sofas are delivered to our client’s beautiful and spacious living room. The scale, shape and fabric of the pieces create the dramatic and bold look that our client desired.
