Origins of Slipcovers

slip covered furniture

Slip covering became common practice in the early 1900’s. As families closed their permanent residence and left for the Seashore for the summer they would cover their upholstered furniture with bed sheets. It was discovered that during the warmer months these lighter weight cotton fabrics were much more comfortable to sit on than heavier upholstery weight fabrics and thus the slipcover was born.
